Resonances, 9 - 28 May 2010
From the folly of Ickworth to the opulence of the Wallace Collection, the Catholic intrigue of Coughton Court to the picturesque Nunnington Hall, Resonances inspires a fresh look at four historic houses through music and sound.

Arriving after hours, you will be taken on a special journey through the house, where an installation brings selected rooms to life, featuring a new soundtrack by Simon Fisher Turner and prose by Jeanette Winterson (read and recorded by the author).

The tour culminates in an intimate performance by the stunning cellist Natalie Clein in a programme featuring Bach’s Solo Cello Suites and a premiere of a new work by Guillemots bandleader Fyfe Dangerfield.

Natalie Clein is one of the most charismatic and exciting young cellists in the world. From her highly acclaimed recording of Elgar's Cello Concerto to working with collaborators from other worlds, she combines extraordinary technique with passion and warmth.

An artist with broad sonic horizons, Simon Fisher Turner had a lasting association with film maker Derek Jarman, creating sound tracks for films such as Caravaggio and The Last King of England. His work ranges from projects with galleries such as the Serpentine to producing the latest album by Polly Scattergood for Mute records.

Talented songwriter and leader of indie band Guillemots, Fyfe Dangerfield recently brought out his first solo album to great acclaim. His love of melody and wide ranging influences are brought to bear in his commission for Natalie.

Line up: Natalie Clein, solo cello

Sound design: Matthew Fairclough
Lighting design: Matthew Waterfield

Audiences can move freely through the installation for up to one hour. The performance will last approx one hour. Total running time: 2 hours.

Resonances is supported by Arts Council England and PRS Foundation
