“This opportunity has been so significant in pushing me forward as an artist." Piera Onacko, Sound Generator Artist 2022
At Sound UK, we believe in nurturing artistic talent and pushing the boundaries of creativity.
We support some of the world’s most exciting artists to develop and realise bold, new, and innovative ideas that resonate with diverse audiences and settings.
Since 2001, we have worked with over 200 artists and composers working across contemporary music, reaching hundreds of thousands of audience members.
Now, you have the opportunity to support more extraordinary artists.
Our Sound Generator programme allows early-career contemporary music and sound artists time and a safe space to research and develop ambitious new projects in collaboration with Sound UK and a national network of industry mentors.
This one-of-a-kind 6-month programme is transformational for the artists who have taken part so far, providing the time and support they need to develop and test ambitious new ideas, ready for the next stage of full commissioning and public engagement.
“Sound Generator was a crucial point in my career - I was able to showcase my ideas in the ways they were meant to be from the get go, instead of shrinking them down.” NikNak, Sound Generator Artist 2021
As part of our first Sound Generator cohort in 2021, NikNak developed her project Sankofa. In 2022, we commissioned and toured the project - this was NikNak’s first ever UK tour.

Other early-career artists who have taken part in the Sound Generator programme so far have said:
“It’s pushed me well outside of my comfort zone and the amazing mentors I’ve spoken to have really prompted me to re-examine how my music can be presented. It’s definitely a big step forwards for me.”
Andrew Woodhead, Sound Generator Artist 2022
“This opportunity has been so significant in pushing me forward as an artist; to have the funding to allow creative room in realising something so ambitious is a valuable thing. The team at Sound UK have facilitated really useful mentoring opportunities and advice sessions.” Piera Onacko, Sound Generator Artist 2022
