About Arve Henriksen

Trumpeter Arve Henriksen is one of Norway´s most creative musicians, always on the move, always searching and exploring possible and seemingly impossible paths.

His distinctive, hushed tone - inspired by the shakuhachi flute – is but one of many innovative techniques that offer up an extraordinary range of emotions from the most tender to barely contained wrath.

His originality has inspired a myriad of Norwegian and international artists and made him a highly sought after collaborator.

Arve is a founder member of groundbreaking improvising group Supersilent and an original member of Food (with Iain Ballamy).

He was a member of Christian Wallumrød Ensemble and has played and recorded with a large number of Norwegian and international musicians, most notably David Sylvian and Dhafer Youssef.

Arve regularly works with the contemporary and ancient music of vocal group Trio Mediaeval, and embraces new partnerships with musicians from all over the world.

Arve has appeared on over 180 recordings, released seven solo albums on the superb Norwegian label Rune Grammofon, and one solo album with ECM records. His next release on ECM is a duo album with Dutch pianist Harmen Fraanje.

New album and tour

Listen to new album:

Touch Of Time

New album Touch Of Time is a striking musical rapport between Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen and Dutch pianist Harmen Fraanje.

An initial performance in 2019 to mark ECM’s 50th proved to be the spark for an ongoing and fruitful partnership.

The album is released on 26 January 2024.

Delicate melodies and textures flow between two musicians, who are deeply in tune with nuances of tone-shadings and the detailed development of a musical idea.

In both freely improvised forms and carefully wrought themes, their instruments connect gracefully, picking up and finishing each other’s phrases.
